LR, I much prefer the term used by the Brits for this.

FISH (Fighting in Someone's House).

Awaiting your report with interest and I think we're still owed an article about how the SLA got to where it is today :) Thanks and your analyses are much appreciated.

I too look forward to LR's informative analysis but I suspect he is rather too busy to post for a while.

There can be nothing trickier for any Army than this type of battlefield situation where the enemy is surrounded by hostages and entrenched within their ranks as well.

It is further complicated by the fact that the LTTE are more than happy to sacrifice the lives of civilians both as shields and as forced conscripts.

I am no big fan of the GoSL leadership but it seems to me that the SLA are showing more restraint, professionalism and discipline thus far than they traditionally earn credit for.

This is a near impossible task and I can't see how a bloodbath is avoidable without a cease-fire.

IF the LTTE honestly cared about the lives of the remaining civilians they would at least try to negotiate a ceasefire without the demand of a separate state.

You can always regroup politically and consider the struggle from within a stable democracy (Something Sri Lanka is not right now although it could become one with courageous new leadership) but you cannot bring back to life those many innocents whose deaths are no more than propaganda tools for a corrupt, criminal and immoral band of thugs like the LTTE.
